Health and Fitness Week returned to Manhasset schools the week of March 18th through 22nd, as the Munsey Park and Shelter Rock Schools' physical education department, Manhasset SCA and Manhasset CASA sponsored numerous programs and activities focusing on fitness, health, nutrition and wellness.

The annual Health and Fitness Week Inititiave included a week of exciting activities geared toward the spirit of eating right, getting active and making smart choices for their bodies and minds. Students in grades K-6 from both Munsey Park and Shelter Rock Schools participated in a poster contest, creating their own “Get Fit” slogan. Winners will be awarded Physical Education Students of the Week, as well as receive a Get Fit Manhasset stress free mood ball.

During a joint Munsey Park/Shelter Rock SCA Meeting on Thursday, March 14, parents learned about an innovative fitness-training tool called SQAIR. The physical education staff from both schools demonstrated the fun and effective training tool, with help from some very fit students. Also explained was the fitness gram, which is used to evaluate students’ fitness levels in grades 4-6. Activity logs have been sent home so that throughout Health and Fitness Week, the students can record all of the physical activities and smart eating choices they and their families make together.

CASA collaborated with the Molloy College Nursing Program for an annual Secondary School student health fair that provided the students hands on and educational activities addressing nutrition, fitness, health heart living and substance abuse prevention. Health coach and holistic nutritionist Maryann Jones provided a middle and high school educational display focussing on the theme “Hydrate.
