Manhasset CASA's 11th Grade parent Presentation provided parents with results of Bach Harrison Prevention Needs Assessment Results and discussed the need for parent disapproval of underage drinking. The Manhasset School District emailed electronic copies of Mothers Against Drunk Driving Power of Parents Handbook to all 11th grade parents by as a reference and guide to help parents talk with their teens about the dangers of underage drinking.

As part of its Red Ribbon Week Substance Abuse Prevention and Awareness Initiatives, Manhasset CASA and its Youth Representatives worked with Dr. Stephen Dewey of the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research of the North Shore-LIJ Health System to address how the human and teen brain is affected by drugs and alcohol. Shelter Rock and Munsey Park Schools celebrated its 2012 Red Ribbon Week (Click Here for more information) October 15th through 19th! Working with the Children's Health Market, the Great Body Shop curriculum was featured with an interactive Jeopardy game where teachers and students interacted and had fun learning about overall health and substance abuse prevention!

Kim Fanter, our wonderful and much requested presenter from Red Ribbon Week 2011, presented her unique parenting workshops over four days and evenings January 9th through January 12th and provided parents with skills and insight to raise healthy and responsible kids in today’s world! This was a fantastic opportunity to get difficult parenting issues addressed in a small workshop setting. The daytime workshops were held in the Teen Zone at the Manhasset Public Library with evening workshops at the Manhasset High School's Black Box Theatre. the Power of Parening Workshops covered four concepts: Parenting Styles; Surviving the Teen Years; Building Your Child's Self Esteem; and Teen Stress.

At its recent sector meeting, CASA Coalition member, the Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, presented to a packed room of Manhasset school, community and parent representatives, an overview of the role all of us can play regarding substance use and young people. Dr. Jeffrey Reynolds, Executive Director, LICADD, highlighted the necessity for collaborative solutions to substance abuse as funding for treatment and addiction continues to be reduced and eliminated across Long Island. In conjunction with Manhasset Secondary Schools' 8th Grade Parent Meeting, Dean Schlanger, Principal, Manhasset Secondary School, presented parents with an overview of the Bach Harrison Prevention Needs Assessment Student Survey results and discussed with parents the importance on dialogue in the deterrance of alcohol and substance use.
